Slingo

The History of Slingo Games

The first Slingo game was made in 1996 by Slingo Originals. The game was developed by US businessman Sal Falciglia Senior, who felt that the world needed a game that combined the best aspects of bingo and slot gameplay. As the internet was still in its infancy the creator of Slingo had hoped that the game would eventually be featured on TV and had no idea it would achieve global success.

Slingo was there to welcome everyone when the rest of the world connected. Considered to be the original "casual" online game, it made its debut on AOL before making its way to MSN. After that, the Slingo name expanded to CD ROMs and Facebook before making its way to mobile devices, where players anywhere could enjoy it.

Nowadays Slingo games are a staple of online and brick-and-mortar casinos, with over 55 million players worldwide.

About Slingo Originals

US-based Slingo Originals was founded between 1993 and 1997. What started as an experience at land-based casinos swiftly moved to the internet sphere when the UK-based Gaming Realms studio bought the company in 2015.

They subsequently formed new partnerships with Endemol and SG Digital. Through these arrangements, they developed official Slingo variants of well-known TV show games including Deal or No Deal Slingo as well as Slingo variants of popular slot series as seen in the Irish-themed Slingo Rainbow Riches. They teamed with Inspired Gaming to introduce Slingo Centurion, and they worked with Fremantle to establish the foundation for Slingo X Factor.

Slingo Starburst was released as a result of their collaboration with NetEnt and the team continues to release new and innovative takes on the original Slingo concept. With so much emphasis being placed on live casino gameplay, we may even see a live edition of Slingo in the future.

How Do Slingo Games Work?

There are a lot of Slingo games out there, and many of these have experimented with the traditional formula. Typically though, the player is presented with a 5x5 grid that resembles a bingo card with numbers on it. There is a single, five-space horizontal reel located beneath the grid.  A number will be checked off if you spin a number that corresponds to one of the numbers on your grid. The objective is to make a Slingo which is a group of five symbols matched in a row, vertically, horizontally, and diagonally. Up to 12 Slingos can be achieved during gameplay, with more Slingos earning higher value prizes.

In contrast to slots, you buy the game rather than paying for each reel spin. Ten spins are used in most Slingo games. Players may win free spins when playing, or choose to purchase extra spins at the end of play.

The Most Popular Slingo Games to Explore

As we’ve mentioned, there are so many excellent Slingo games out there. However, the most popular games of late are those which are inspired by iconic slot franchises, such as those below, which make for a perfect way for slot fans to try out the Slingo game formula.

Slingo Rainbow Riches

Slingo Rainbow Riches

Thanks to a fruitful collaboration with SG Digital, Slingo Originals' collection of Slingo games features the well-known Rainbow Riches slot franchise. The developer of the game worked well to incorporate the iconic Slingo formula while retaining the iconic imagery and bonus features seen in previous Rainbow Riches games. Players can select extra rewards from the Wishing Well feature or get multipliers from the Cash Crop round when they gather five slingos. Similar to the first game, the most lucrative aspects are Pots of Gold and the Road to Riches.

Slingo Starburst

Slingo Starburst

Slots and bingo come together in a wonderful way in Slingo Starburst, which is based on one of NetEnt's most played games, the space-themed slot known as Starburst. With a variety of wilds, a top prize of 1,500x, and the incorporation of the Win Spins feature seen in the original Starburst slot, Slingo Starburst is able to offer the best of both slots and Slingo entertainment.

Slingo Deal Or No Deal

Slingo Deal or No Deal

The global TV game show Deal or No Deal is a popular theme across multiple genres including slots and live games. In Slingo Deal or No Deal, players get to experience the iconic game in the Slingo format for the first time ever. In this game, wins are obtained by matching numbers on the reel to the numbers displayed on the iconic boxes (a staple feature of the game show) that are featured on the 5x5 game grid.

Common Symbols Used in Slingo

There is a selection of commonly seen Slingo symbols, which may change in appearance to suit the theme of the game but will enact the same result.

Top Tips for Playing Slingo

Tip #1

Explore the Paytable

Before you play, take a look at the paytable. The symbols that are used in the game and the expected payments are displayed in the paytable. Paytables are particularly useful because they typically offer directions on how to play the game, an estimate of the cost of additional spins (should your Slingo game have them), the arrangement of the win lines, and occasionally even some useful advice. The paytable is often accessible by clicking on the '?' or '(i)' button.

Tip #2

Purchase Extra Spins Selectively

The majority of Slingo games provide either an infinite number of extra spins or a fixed number of extra spins. It's important to remember that further spins aren't free (unless you've earned them especially), and that the price you pay for each one will vary according to the level of play at the time and your possibilities of moving up the reward ladder. Utilise extra spins sparingly and with caution.

Tip #3

Pay Attention to the Joker and Super Joker

Super Joker and/or Joker variants are present in almost all Slingo slots. Similar to the wild in slot games these symbols can help complete Slingos. A Super Joker symbol lets you mark off one number in any place, while a Joker symbol lets you mark off one number in the column above its reel location when it lands.

Tip #4

Make Use of Bonus Features

Certain Slingo games include extra features and bonus games, while other games will continue to follow the original principle. Because it will inform you of the available bonuses and how to obtain them, paying attention to the paytable can be quite beneficial in this regard. It's always a good idea to try to activate the bonus games since they can result in additional rewards or a greater opportunity to get more Slingos.

Tip #5

Always Game Responsibly

It should go without saying that you should always exercise caution when playing any online casino game. If all you enjoy about Slingo is the simple pleasure of matching numbers, then using the game's free-play option is a fantastic choice that won't be taxing on your wallet. When playing Slingo, it's crucial that you keep your emotions in check. You shouldn't chase after losses out of annoyance or spend a lot of money on extra spins in an attempt to get a Full House.
