There are over 2,780 billionaires in the world1, from tech giants such as Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg to fashion moguls like Bernard Arnault and the Wertheimer brothers.
Many people believe their destiny is written in the stars. But how much influence do star signs have, and could they determine our chance of success?
Using rich list data, the team at Prime Casino has uncovered the star signs and Chinese zodiac signs of the world’s wealthiest billionaires, revealing which is most likely to earn you a fortune.
The Star Signs Most Likely To Become Billionaires
1) Libra - 24 Billionaires
If you were born between 23 September and 23 October, you could be set to earn a fortune. Of the top 200 wealthiest billionaires in the world, one in eight (24) are Libras. This includes the likes of siblings John and Jacqueline Mars, who are both worth £35.1 billion ($45.2 billion).
They inherited stakes in the Mars firm after their father died in 1999, each acquiring a third of the company alongside their late brother Forrest Jr. Mars is known for confectionary items, such as Bounty and M&Ms, pet food brands such as Pedigree and Whiskas, and food brands such as Dolmio and Ben’s Original.
2) Taurus - 20 Billionaires
The star sign second most likely to guarantee you financial success is Taurus. One in 10 (20) of the world’s wealthiest billionaires were born between 20 April and 20 May, meaning their birthdays fall within the Taurus dates. Perhaps the most famous of these is Mark Zuckerberg, the co-founder of Meta Platforms.
Mark created the popular social media platform Facebook in 2004 when he was just 19 years old. Now, at 40, he is currently the third richest person in the world, with a net worth of £168.9 billion ($215.5 billion).
3) Cancer - 17 Billionaires
Over two in 25 (17) of the top 200 wealthiest billionaires in the world were born between 22 June and 22 July, meaning their star sign is Cancer. This includes the current richest person in the world, Elon Musk, born on 28 June 1971.
Elon has cofounded many companies throughout his successful career, including electric car maker Tesla, rocket producer SpaceX, and artificial intelligence startup xAI. In 2022, he also bought the social media platform Twitter, which he renamed X. Elon now has a net worth of £278.2 billion ($374.9 billion).
The Most Common Star Signs In The World’s Leading Industries
Due to Libra being the most common star sign among the world’s wealthiest billionaires, it comes as no surprise that it’s also the most common star sign across six of the world’s leading industries. It’s the most common star sign among billionaires who have made their fortunes in fashion and retail, gambling and casinos, and manufacturing. It’s also among the most common star signs in the healthcare, sports, and telecom industries.
Billionaires with the Taurus star sign most commonly work in the automotive, healthcare, and logistics industries. This includes people like Stefan Quandt, who owns 23.6% of the BMW company and has a net worth of £17 billion ($21.7 billion). It also includes Cyrus Poonawalla, who founded the world’s largest vaccine-making company (by doses) and is now worth £16.9 billion ($21.6 billion), and John Fredriksen, who has a net worth of £12.2 billion ($15.6 billion) after his investments in the shipping industry.
The Chinese Zodiac Animals Producing The Most Billionaires
1) Sheep - 20 billionaires
According to the Chinese New Year, those born in the year of the sheep are most likely to gain financial success. Twenty of the world’s wealthiest billionaires have a sheep as their Chinese zodiac animal, including the former CEO of Microsoft, Bill Gates.
Bill founded the software company alongside the late Paul Allen in 1975 after dropping out of Harvard University. In 2020, he stepped down from the Microsoft board, and his stake in the company is now estimated to be less than 1%. Despite this, his net worth still stands at a huge £84.6 billion ($108 billion), making him the fourteenth richest person in the world.
2) Rabbit - 19 billionaires
The Chinese zodiac animal that is second most likely to produce billionaires is the rabbit. Nineteen of the richest people in the world, such as Amazon chairman and founder Jeff Bezos, were born in the year of the rabbit.
Jeff was born on 12 January 1964, and 30 years later, he created the e-commerce giant Amazon from his garage in Seattle. He stepped down from his CEO role in 2021, becoming the executive chairman. Jeff is now believed to own less than 10% of the company, yet he is still the second richest person in the world, with a net worth of £188.7 billion ($240.8 billion).
3) Dragon and Rooster - 16 billionaires
The years of the dragon and the rooster are in joint third place. One in 12 (16) of the wealthiest billionaires on the rich list have a dragon as their Chinese zodiac animal, including Giovanni Ferrero, born on 21 September 1964.
As his name suggests, Giovanni is the executive chairman of his family’s namesake company, famous for producing confectionary items such as Ferrero Rocher chocolates, Nutella hazelnut spread, Tic Tac mints, and Kinder chocolate products. He has an estimated net worth of £33.2 billion ($42.3 billion).
There are also 16 billionaires who were born in the year of the rooster, such as Miriam Adelson, who inherited her fortune after her husband Sheldon Adelson's death in 2021. Sheldon was the former CEO and chairman of the casino company Las Vegas Sands. Miriam now owns over half of the New York Stock Exchange-listed gambling empire and a majority stake in the Dallas Mavericks NBA team.
The Most Common Chinese Zodiac Animals In Leading Industries
The sheep is the most common Chinese zodiac animal in five leading industries: energy, healthcare, media and entertainment, real estate, and technology. One billionaire born in the year of the sheep is Leonid Mikhelson. He made his fortune by founding the natural gas production company Novatek, taking his net worth to £21.5 billion ($27.4 billion).
Media mogul Rupert Murdoch was also born in the year of the sheep. Through his company News Corp, he owns hundreds of publishing outlets worldwide, including newspapers The Sun and The Times, book publisher HarperCollins, and television broadcast channel Fox News. His net worth currently stands at £17.8 billion ($22.7 billion).
Despite being the second most common Chinese zodiac animal among the world’s wealthiest billionaires, the rabbit is only the most common animal in two industries: food and beverage, and telecom. People in these industries who were born in the year of the rabbit include Jorge Paulo Lemann, who became a controlling shareholder of the world’s largest brewer, Anheuser-Busch InBev, and Carlos Slim Helú, who controls Latin America’s biggest mobile telecom firm, América Móvil.
Methodology:
We began by creating a seed list of the top 200 wealthiest billionaires from the Forbes real-time billionaires list. We recorded each person’s country of birth, their net worth and the industry in which they have made their fortune. This data was collected on 9 December 2024 and is subject to change. All currencies were converted on 10 December 2024.
Next, we researched each billionaire’s birth date (Day/Month/Year). For some of the billionaires on the list, no data was available, or only partial data was available.
We then used USA Today to assign a star sign to each billionaire (where possible). We then calculated the most common star signs overall, as well as by industry.
Next, we used a Chinese New Year calendar to assign a Chinese zodiac animal to each billionaire (where possible). Finally, we calculated the most common zodiac animals overall, as well as by industry.
