Methodology:

We began by using City Population to gather a seed list of the most populated UK cities, making note of their most recent population figures.

Next, we used Numbeo to collect the safety index score and average monthly costs for a one-bedroom apartment and basic utilities in each city. All currencies were converted on 6 March 2025 and rounded to the nearest whole number.

We then used Tripadvisor to gather the number of parks and restaurants in each city.

Next, we used Climate Data to collect the average annual temperature in each city.

We then used Songkick to gather the number of upcoming live events in each city.

Next, we used AllTrails to collect the number of running and hiking routes in or near each city.

We then used GolfNow to gather the number of golf courses in or near each city.

Next, we used Yelp to collect the number of gyms within a two-mile radius of each city.

Finally, we gave each of the ten factors a normalised score out of 10 before taking an average across all factors to form our bachelor score.

We then repeated this process for European cities, using enjoytravel to create a seed list of cities and World Population Review to make note of their most recent population figures. The number of gyms was excluded from this section due to a lack of reliable data.

All data is correct as of 7 March 2025.
